The Super 400 was the largest "Jazz" archtop guitar of the 1930's (well, actually the Epiphone Emperor was slightly wider but had a different sound) and it's gigantic 18" wide bottom made the strumming of the guitar stand out in a dance or swing band. Both the L-5 and Super 400 are 25.5 scale (there were some made in the 20's and 30's that had the 24.75 scale). If you are used to the 24.75 scale, switching to the longer scale will require an adjustment. The 18 inch body is not for everyone, but neither is a 17 inch body. Play both before you buy.
